Embodied Script

Before words.

Long before these signs appeared in my paintings, they already existed in my notebooks.

As a child, I filled pages with this instinctive writing without knowing why. It simply belonged to me.

Years later, it naturally found its way onto canvas.

I don’t think of it as an alphabet. Nor as something to decipher.

It is another way of giving form to what words cannot yet hold.

Sometimes it stands on its own. Sometimes it quietly weaves through the painting.

Always before words.
